PAYE refund ?

Help I`ve been sent a cheque for an over £2k overpayment for tax year 2011-2012.
I finished work and took early retirement end of March 2011 and only started paying tax on my £6k pension April 2012.

When did you receive your final payment from your employer and when did you start getting your pension?

Thanks for the reply no doubt you can tell I know nothing about taxation even though I`ve paid it for nearly 40yr.:D
My pension and final payment (tax free) were both in April 2011.

Hmmm so no tax paid on salary or pension last year yet £2000 rebate?
It definately relates to 2011/2012 does it? Do you have any other income? Tax on bank interest? Is there a breakdown on the paperwork or just a cheque?

The info readout says my PAYE income for 2011-2012 was £19437 and £4414 tax paid ?

I take it you only earned your £6k pension + final payment from work? If this is the case and you disagree with the 19k figure you need to phone HMRC
