Desktop pc to Plasma via hdmi

Options
Hi all :) I would like to watch videos and you tube from my desktop on my plasma TV via hdmi.
I have tried to do this using the display settings facility but I must be doing it wrong as the best I can get is about two thirds of my desktop image showing on my TV screen .This image is to the right and cannot be dragged over or expanded also even with "show on both displays " selected only TV image appearers.
My set up is ---TV Panasonic G10
Desktop Windows 7 64bit
AMD Athlon 11 x3
8GB ram
ATI Radion HD 4200
Motherboard GA-MA 785GT-UD£H
Thank you for reading ...

try reducing the desktop resolution before you plug it in to the tv....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I've got a G10 too with a Mac Mini happily plugged in via HDMI.
Along GunJack's lines, plug everything in, and get the desktop on the TV as you have now. THEN go into the display settings, and you'll want 1920x1080 as the resolution, and if there is any option for 'Overscan' turn it OFF. This should give you your full desktop on screen. 50 or 60Hz for frequency, doesn't really matter.

I would try it that way, yes. It may be that the tv can't display that res full-screen via hdmi.

Does the tv and pc have vga sockets? That and an audio cable may be the better way to connect the two, and give less faffing on getting a full-screen display on the tv. I connect an old pc to my tv like that, and it works fine :)

This particular TV does have a VGA socket, but it's rubbish, and only accepts a low resolution. Really don't bother with this.
The TV is full HD, and will throw out 1080p over HDMI all day long, no problem there. I don't know anything about your graphics card, but that seems to be the problem, I think it's trying to throw out 4:3 rather than 16:10 shaped images (square TVs instead of widescreen ones). Are there any 16:9 resolutions you can try (with, say, 1080 or 720 in the vertical?). Try to get the latest drivers for your graphics card. 1024x768 should get it at least displaying OK in the meantime though.
