Lanzarote tips please

Hi. We're going to Lanzarote this weekend for about 2 wks. I just wondered if anyone has any tips for while we are there? The last time we had a holiday abroad was in 2006 and that was to Majorca. So it seems new all over again.:D

I'm going with my hubby and two kids aged 10 & 11. We're self catering and staying at Sol Lanzarote Hotel (yes I did read the reviews on Tripadvisor).:T Any tips are welcome.
:j I hope my comment helps :T

Get a taxi from the airport rather than transfers

It'll be much quicker and cheaper ~€15-17

timanfaya is a great trip out, with the camel rides on the way. we booked our trips when we where in lanzarote with last minute travel a lot cheaper than with the tour operators.
we also went over to fuerteventura.
rancho texas is another day out, your children should enjoy it
we booked our transfers to and from the airport with last minute travel also
not sure where the sol lanzarote is but if you are in the old town the purple turtle is worth popping into, cheap meals and drinks

A list of excursions from THOMSON, not recommending them but will give you a good idea of the trips and a rough idea of price etc. We had a hire car so didn't do any organised ones, Timanfaya was good but loads of cars queueing, busses get to skip the queue. The water park at Costa Teguise was ok, we only paid for 1 sunbed, to use as a base but no-one checked our tickets so we spread out a bit! Teguise market was big, it takes over the town/village, the stalls are lining the streets as opposed to being in a field, good atmosphere but not easy to find a route around, kept doubling back on ourselves.

We stayed in Costa Teguise and really enjoyed our time in Lanzarote, hope you do too.

http://www.lastminute-transfer.com/lastminute_trip.asp link to last minute excursions, if you need to book transfers we booked online with last minute and paid when we got to our destination in lanzarote. think theres also a company called customer travel that do excursions i have never used them but they also seem to get decent reviews like last minute do.
  • Been twice to Lanzarote, both times to Costa Teguise. Enjoyed it the first time in 1996. Enjoyed it less when when we went back 2 years ago. Timanfya is a good trip though. I wouldn't rush back though.

There is also a " Last Minute" excursion shop near the shops in Costa Teguise- we saved a fortune on the Timanfaya trip.

If you have little kids, the half - day trip will be ample - we took the full day and it was too long for them.
    I don't know much, but I know I love you ....<3
  • :TThanks everyone:T I will be printing these off and taking them with me (though I will click on all links in posts sometime this week before we go).

Not sure if you're checking t'internet whilst away... and I hope you're enjoying the sunshine!

There is now a waterpark at Rancho Texas - just outside Puerto del Carmen. The cost entitles you to all day access to the waterpark and the zoo.

    Enjoy!
    I'm not easily distracted, I just... ... ... oh my god it's a puppy!!
