Internal Hard Drives - Help

Any 3.5" drive is compatible with any operating system and is the same procedure to install. The only thing you need to confirm is that your PC uses SATA and not PATA/IDE.
The green drives are just designed for low power consumption, because they have intelligent technology for spinning down when not in use and when they're in use they spin at a lower speed. They're perfect for inexpensive backups.
Generally if it's for a backup drive anything that has the space will do. I prefer Seagate, but they're all from the same manufacturing companies anyway so doesn't make much differenceOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

It's to replace a main internal hard drive that has failed. What are the main points to look out for?. I'd like a 1.5tb one as a minimum if possible.0

There isn't really anything minimum to look out for just look at the connections and make sure it's compatible with what you can use on your existing motherboard
You use to be able to get a 2tb hard disk for around £70 but the thailand flood affected things in terms of pricing
1.5tb is plenty of space for storage and would suit you fineOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

You still haven't said if your existing drive is SATA or PATA/IDE. This will determine your choice of drive, unless you want to mess around with adaptors. And you won't find a 1.5 TB PATA/IDE drive. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

It 'may' not be a failed drive but a firmware problem.
Have a look here

It may be worth contacting seagate via the email addy in the article with details, although it is an old article, but hey this is MSE and if you don't try .......0 -
Sounds like it could be the 7200.11 BSY firmware error. I had to fix this once. Managed it successfully using the info here.604!0
