Broken DSi Microphone

We appear to have broken our Dsi's microphone... my daughters singing mustve given it a shock or something!! Its about 20m old so not inside its warranty is there a cheap way to fix this? as we have a couple of games that require this function.
Is there something I could buy and plug in? - I keep thinking that a handsfree kit thing might work...?
Is there any cheaper but legit/reliable places that could fix it for me... as far as i can gather from Nintendo's website it will cost circa £30, which seems alot as I can could get another console secondhand for that!!
