New Google Earth available

Options
Hi - apologies if this has been posted before

The new version of Google Earth is available now from your friendly free download centres - CNET.com (download.com) and vnunet.com.

This, if you already didn't know is a splendid piece of kit for all ages, and we often fight to use it.

It's a satellite map of the earth, with a lot of bells and whistles attached. Put in a UK postcode, and it should take you straight there on the map. Same with an address, village, city, etc.

For kids the geographical stuff is immense.

It really only runs properly on a fairly new pc, with broadband - the broadband is a definite. And it is very resource hungry.

The new version has a few new tricks and is much smoother than the old.

Try it.

Cheers:beer:

No need to panic - unless you're doing your tax online. Google Earth does slow your PC down but not in a bad way, it's just resource hungry. I checked on download.com before I posted it and there are hardly any - very few out of a lot - negative posts about its effects.

Much better to use this if you just want aerial pics etc. It doesn't have all the tools that Google Earth has but you can choose different pictures (Top left of screen) and it does zoom in very close. Because it's web based it doesn't use up too much RAM whilst you use it.

Hey, this is good too!!!! Thanks. I particularly like the option of the different maps.

That's odd. The google earth page around my way has just been updated, looks like they did it last summer. Before that the picture looked to be about 5 years old, (had my old car in the picture) so maybe they haven't got around to updating the pictures in your area yet.

It just depends on the latest satellite pics for your area, they get updated with varying frequency.

But it's not a new version, it's still version 4, which came out a few months ago.

I was surpsised to learn recently that not all images used by Google earth are satellite images, (See here) I thought they were, but I suppose it makes sense to use aerial pics where available or where they are of better quality.
