Query ref fund performance percentages

Options
I am confused by the percentage returns given for funds from sites like Hargreaves Lansdown and Trustnet. For example, I have held Aberdeen Emerging Markets for exactly one year, and per my portfolio summary at Hargreaves Lansdown I have had a 7.54% return. Yet when I look at the fund performance chart for AEM, it says the return from Mar 06 to Mar 07 has been 12.37%. Why is this - the time frames are the same? All help gratefully appreciated!

savingforoz, it depends on when in March you bought. The lowest price I can see for March 06 ( via Sharescope ) is 234p, the highest 244p. With the last price showing as 266p that makes ~12% from the lowest and ~8% from the highest point.

Aberdeen UK Emerging Companies A Acc

    Data at 16/3/07

    3 months - 2.92%
    6 months - 16.98%
    1 year - 13.83%

Thats from Lipper on bid to bid basis (so no initial charge taken).

Even if you paid full initial charge (4.25% with no discounts), that still doesnt cover the difference.

What was the amount you invested and what was the value on the anniversary?

Thanks for the replies - it seems that my memory of when I bought is not quite right - looking at the contract note I bought on 3rd April 2006, at 248. So not March at all. Todays valuation is 266.70, which is the 7.54% increase. That makes sense to me now - must check my info more carefully!

As ever, you guys are very helpful to us newbies! Thank you again.

You might try Money Observer's porfolio tool handy for tracking what you bought, when and how much it's worth now.
