Connect laptop to desktop PC

I want to format my laptop and want to back-up photos, documents etc. to the desktop PC as that's the only available storage I have apart from CD-R's and that will take ages/use loads of CD's. I have a wireless router so is it possible to network the two computers? If so, what's the easier way to do it, an idiots guide if possible. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Do you not already have a backup of the data on the laptop? If not, you are in danger of losing the lot when the drive fails. Back it up ASAP, preferably to an external hard drive. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
