Wrong prescription in new glasses

Hi there, not sure if this is in the right place but I'm relatively new to the forum section of this website.

So I'm going to the USA for a year on August 18th and I went to have an eye test at Asda Opticians so I wouldn't have to have one out there, plus I wanted new glasses anyway. I didn't feel that my eye sight had changed but I was due for a test. Anyway, the optician informed me that my eyesight had changed and that my prescription had gone from -1.5 to -1. I thought this was odd but didn't question it. I got my glasses from a different opticians, Optical Express, as they do RayBans and Asda don't. I have my new glasses but I could tell straight away that they weren't right for me. Comparing my sight with my old glasses makes it so obvious that my sight is more blurry in my new glasses, so much more than what could be classed as normal.

Anyway, I spent a lot of money on new lenses and so I am really quite angry that they are the wrong prescription. I can't afford to pay for new lenses, so seeing as Asda got it wrong would they be obliged in anyway to change them for free? I hope someone can give me some advice. Thanks

well firstly I would say dont decide they are wrong until an Optician confirms it,

.50 is a fair amount to change to in one go and you will find your old glasses 'clearer' if you are sitting and swapping between the 2 as it will take time for your eyes to become adjusted to the new ones,

First thing to do is return for a re-check of your eyes,

In future, have your sight test at the same place you plan to buy your glasses, it makes this sort of thing much easier to sort out. Shop around first.

Firstly, go back to OE and get them to confirm there are no manufacturing defects/matching the prescription etc.

Assuming that's OK, ask them if they would consider retesting your eyes and changing the lenses if the prescription is wrong. If you were in my store I'd ask you to pay for the examination, but would change the lenses for you for free if necessary - but I can't speak for OE.

If they won't do this, you'll have to go back to ASDA and ask them to retest you, which they should do, and change the lenses for you free of charge if necessary - which they might be prepared to do, but as you didn't buy them from there..... who knows.

But try Optical Express first - you spent most of your money there so hopefully they'll help.

You know straightaway if your prescription is wrong. Mine went by more than -1 to -10 from -9 and my eyes adjusted straightaway.
