Facebook Selling pages

  • I got 'removed' from my local selling group on FB. I didn't really find it useful, lots of ads from local businesses etc, which I didn't really mind. However, I saw a post on there in which someone was trying to sell a smartphone, which was quite new. They didn't get any response, so re posted the following night. No responses again, so re posted. This went on for about a week and then they started re posting every 6 hours or so, then it became nearly every hour. I responded suggesting that she might asking too much (which she was, in my view) and that by re posting so often wasn't doing her any favours. Needless to see it turned into an argument.....

I found it really amusing when somebody pointed out to the girl who bumped her post selling a Katie Price hardback book for £10 that the same book was available in poundland so the chances of a sale were zero!:p

Well my two buyers turned up last night and have both aked if I can get more stock (I am selling as a business as are the vast majority of sellers on the dozen or so selling pages I use).

That was a nice little profit for very little work and I have another potential buyer I am speaking to at the moment about something I am selling for my son.

  • I'll be honest (and sorry Soolin), while I don't begrudge you making the best of your business, I do think there should be separate groups for business sellers and for those regular bods like me who just want to buy/sell stuff we don't need any more but want to make a little back on the cost. It irks me so much to wade through all the (mostly cheap nasty) tat that some sellers post over and over 12x a day.

Well done to you though; just goes to show they can be worthwhile.

One lady on one of my groups was offering a used Galaxy S2 phone. She asked for offers but said "Mazuma would give her £194 for it". I told her I thought that was a good deal and a lot more than she'd get off the chancers on the group who all seem to take the pee with whatever they offer (you can sell one for around £220 on ebay before fees). Funnily enough, she deleted that comment!

The most annoying thing about the groups though; people who just put up a (usually blurry) picture with no description or price. At least give people some clue as to what you're offering and how much you're hoping to get for it!

Second thoughts; at least the business sellers actually get the listing bit right! :j

Locally we have about 3 or 4 selling pages that do not allow businesses at all and have about 4 posts a week and no more than 150-200 registered users. The pages I use are all associated with those 'private' groups so for instance it will be 'private selling at MSE end' and the linked one 'all sellers welcome at MSE end'. And as there are so few users really on the private selling ones all the private sellers use the publicly open sales pages.

  • We have one local group that doesn't allow businesses and that has almost 2000 members. That said, although they say they don't allow businesses, they bloody well have business sellers on there. nobody can have that many new pairs of Nikes or pringle socks just lying around. The other groups have between 1000 and 5000 members. I think part of the problem is that the groups here are so big because it's a dense urban area. So you end up with quite a lot of people bumping or reposting quite a lot of stuff.

I do wonder how long it will be before Facebook cotton on to these groups and start trying to "manage" *coughchargecough* for them?

I can barely sell a thing on Gumtree, maybe over the past 3-4 years I've sold 3 items. The same stuff gets snapped up on the Facebook group though as I think facebook appeals to different people.
