Yes, I did move area but my mother lives just up the road from me and in a house which is the same council tax band. She pays about £25 a month and can use as much as she wants. I pay about £35 a month and use hardly any: there are three adults in my house - we use water very carefully - don't flush the loo every time, when I use the washing machine I always switch it off, half cycle, and make sure it only does one rinse and we have very quick (2 minute) showers. If I lived in my mum's house I would save £10 a month and use as much water as I liked!

I am against forced water meters on principal - no-one would think it was fair if the same system existed for gas or electricity! If people want them, fair enough, but I would love to go back to the days when I could use water without worrying!

Not sure what you mean. We do have gas and electricity meters and pay for what we use. There is a shortage of water in general. Perhaps hosepipe bans would not be needed if everyone had a meter (on condition that the water authorities repaired their leaks).

I am not sure though that a water meter HAS to be installed if a property changes hands. I opted to have one about 2 years ago and it has saved me money. If I sell, the new owner willhave to use the meter. However I have heard nothing to say that a house without a meter must get one if it is sold to new owners.

Eh? Gas and electricity meters are fitted in all properties-where have you been living where those utitlies were not metered?
How can it be unfair to have a system whereby you pay for what you use?
BTW, your CT band is completely irrelevant to the rateable value on which non-metered charges are calculated.
Water authorities have the right to impose a meter upon change of ownership, though not all do so.

This reads as though you mean no-one would think it fair if you had a forced meter for gas and electricity which sort of made my eyes leap out of their sockets but, on reflection, I think you mean no-one would think it fair if your electricity and gas bills were based on RV. So all is now well. ;)

    Cheers

Yes, that is what I mean - no-one would think it was right if some people could use unlimited gas and electricity and paid a fixed amount based on the RV. It is really unfair that I have to watch every drop of water I use when I know many people who waste it and pay less than I do! Also, I'm sure there would be hardly any water shortages if everyone was metered.

So your complaint is not that you are on a meter but that every one else should be?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

My complaint is that I don't want to be on a meter so why should I be forced to be when others are not.

£35 divided by three is £11.66 per person. If your mother lives alone she pays £25 per person. Has your mother considered a meter?
