OEM vs generic part oxygen sensor Audi A3

Any opinions welcome

My Audi A3 (X reg) requires new oxygen (Lambda) sensor

Audi dealer Bosch original part = £140

Generic part from online dealers (GSF / Europarts) = £90

Is it worth fitting the original part or will generic one suffice

I believe the oxygen sensor regulates the carbon emission from the exhaust and can have an effect on the performance and fuel efficiency

Be grateful for any advice from forum members

The part is £140 from AUDI? Or from GSF?

Normally they offer the AUDI part in an AUDI box, Then the same part in a plain box (OEM), Then cheapest option, Possibly an unbranded one.

How long do you plan on keeping the car and is everything else all good?

If its all good and your keeping it for a long time i would get the OEM part. Its what the factory fit but in a plain box.

Not keeping it that long? cheapest option.

My advice would be to go on ebay.

I have just done a quick search on there and and I found a Bosch part for £68. Will you be fitting yourself or taking it somewhere?

Check the history of the ebay seller. There's lots of easily printed OEM boxes out there with rubbish pattern parts in them.

might be best to confirm a oxygen (Lambda) sensor is definitely required first, they are quite robust, in normal use, many have been changed when all the lamda is doing is showing [ for example] weak mixture caused by a seperate fault, and original equipment should be fitted everytime with these.

not true ref to fitting OE lamda's. what is true is lamda sensor down or sensing a weak mixture or lean mixture, in each case a failed lamda can also cause both these cases more over fueling issue than under fuelling issue wich would need to rectified as a priority.

That is good advice. I fixed the lamda error code in the wifes mr2 just by cleaning out the MAF sensor from all the crap with carb spray, now runs like a dream.

ecp will list the part manufacture on their website. if it says bosch then you are getting the same part as the dealer only difference between the two is the box they come in.
