Edinburgh Cameron Toll Travelodge

Hi

I am staying in Edinburgh soon for a family do. Thought i might stay an extra few days at the Edinburgh Cameron Toll Travelodge as it offers pretty decent rates for the days we are up there.

please can anyone confirm if there is reasonable free parking available for this lodge? I.e. its not limited spaces on first come basis.

are there any shops/restaurants in the area maybe walking distance?

what are nearest attractions?

i am travelling with my young son, so is this area okay for a family?

thanks

Can't comment on the parking but ifmyou look on google maps then you are literally across the road from Cameron Toll Shopping Centre (http://www.camerontoll.co.uk/). It looks as though they have a fair range of shops including cafes/restaurants

Shopping centre food outlets at cameron are not going to be great - it is not a huge shopping centre and has smaller versions of the shops and is not open late. It is a good location though, plenty buses that go straight into town - about 15/20 mins or so (if that) and there are loads of local places to eat on the bus routes (you don't even have to go rightr into town). I would definitely stay there if the rates are good - to be honest, it is located at the end of a street (albeit a long street) that loads of b and bs are on so it is a good base without being right in the city centre.

Definitely safe - you are a couple of miles from Arthur's Seat and the Palace of Holyrood and the Science Centre, but as I said earlier, a £10 taxi or a 20 ish min bus ride into the city and you are sorted.

Check out the lothian buses website - loads of info and pretty accurate.

We've just stayed there this weekend, we had no problem getting parked in the hotel's carpark when we arrived at 2pm and I'm sure there were still spaces when we came back at 7pm to check in. It was quite a large car park and free which was a bonus.

We walked into the centre once and got on a bus back, there's a bus stop directly outside and it was only £1.40 or £3.50 for a day ticket if I remember rightly.

Unfortunately not, I would say the nearest takeaway from that place is at least a 20min walk. But buses plough up and down Craigmillar Park all day and night, very frequently, very cheap. You would get up to where there are takeaways in 5 mins on bus or car. Up to the junction with Salsbury Pl before you really start to get food. Use Google maps Street View to see for yourself, it's a fair hike with a young son tbh.
