Insuring a Motorhome you live in?

Just curious, as I'm not looking to do it, unless/until I win the Lottery Jackpot.

Suppose you buy a Motorhome, and live in it permanently, touring the UK and Europe.

Given that there is no fixed address, at which it is kept, how do they calculate the risk and, thereby, the premium?

The address is only relevant for taking out the policy, as a point of contact. This will need to match the V5C and allow foreign travel. An address for storage may be requested, but saying you will be touring nears this.
  • Thanks for that, but I still don't see what they can base the premium on.

If you don't know where you will be parked, day by day, and week by week, how can they calculate risk?

Well if you are not going to buy one, any answer you get is completely academic

I have a yacht insured on that basis, ie touring. No problem with address as long as they can contact you. Email is acceptable.

It's known as "full Timing". Not many insurance co's provide cover but obviously some do.

"Having a UK address will also make things easier when you are looking for motorhome insurance, just be sure to make it clear that you intend on living in your motorhome full time. However, certain motorhome insurance policies will accept a correspondence address such as a relative’s home."

No idea of cost but travelers appear to manage ok . . .

Surely it's simply based on the vehicle value, plus you need to ensure you have "contents" of the MH specified as an extra as they will be greater seeing as you are going to live in it. Similar to any other motor insurance policy?
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

They will ask where will you spend most of your time. If you cannot answer then they may rate it as the worst area they have on file.

Then you say you will be touring abroad. Will that be more than 30 days Yes sorry we wont cover you then.

You will need a specialist broker.
