HSBC ATM warning in London

Not sure of the best place to put this, so feel free to move it.

My DD has just informed me her debit card has been cloned (again) and it has been traced back to the HSBC ATM's in Cambridge Circus, London. They are opposite the Palace theatre. 'Apparently these cash machines are notorious for being "fiddled" with especially at weekends when high volumes of people use them while drunk!'

She wasn't drunk BTW. The first time they took money and made purchases, this time someone tried to use it in Thailand and China.

I suppose the safest way is to use an ATM inside a bank branch if you can or get cash-back in the Supermarket.

Shielding your pin with your card wallet spread out or free hand etc. can help protect you.

Garages are also vulnerable to key pad cloning.

having worked for a bank. ive got to see some of this equipment.

a few months ago, a big body builder guy went to the cash machine infront of me..... i heard him mutter, il f***ing kill these B***ards...

next minute he pulled the device of, dropped it to the ground, turned around and proceded to smash it..... while looking to see who flinched close by!!!

Just give the card slot, pin pad and the front of the ATM a good hard pull. You might get weird looks but those extra 5 seconds save you stress. Although to be honest I wouldn't want to find a device as I imagine you're supposed to turn it in to the police and I wouldn't want to leave it for it to be picked up with people's details.
