Girls night out in Liverpool for 40th Suggestions please?

Hi
Wondering if you help people could suggest a decent place to go in Liverpool on Sat 18th August.
It is for a 40th Birthday get together. As we are all around the 40 mark we are looking for somewhere with a bit of atmosphere which is not full of posers?
Maybe a live band?
We are coming from Chester so need a bit of guidance please.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
Yvonne

Train from Chester, be sure to purchase tickets before getting onto the train. The last ticket station is the Bache before you'll be charged full penalty fare.

We always tend to get off at the Central station, come out facing McDonalds by the Adelphi hotel. If you fancy a Subway, its just up the road on the RH side.

From here you have a small square loop, you can cross into "The Blob" formally Yates, then across the road into O'Neils then Wetherspoons.

From here, back through Central station concorse though turning right before the station entrance (*Cash Point Here) up towards Slater Street. Basically you go up Bold Street, turn right and you'll start to hear the music. Up here is Walkabout/Arena Bar etc (Aka Concert Square).

You'll avoid all the "Mathews Street/Cavern Quarter" hype/expense.

You can walk back and catch the last train back to Chester which was about 12:10am last time i went. If you miss this, the very very last train is to Ellesemere Port which you can get off at the station, grab a last drink in the pub down the road and a £15-18 taxi back to Chester.

    Enjoy..

We always tend to get off at the Central station..

Central Station is closed for refurb at the moment (Wirral line opens 25th August, Northern line not until October).

Get off at James Street for Liverpool One (lovely restaurants there, I love the Red Hot Buffet) or Moorfields - there is a rail-replacement bus, but it's easier to walk I think.
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

    Liverpool Central?

I only know 2 ways to come out, one straight ahead, past Sainsbury's and the cake shop, and the other, left at the cake shop onto Bold Street.

    Is there a 3rd way?

Like someone else said though, Liverpool Central is closed at the moment.

I'd suggest Liverpool one for food, then Matthew Street or the Reflex 80s bar :D

I hope whatever you choose you have a great night!
