Emergency landing, 2 hour delay, missed connections, can I get refund from airline?

Hi if anybody could help with my problem would be much appreciated!

I've just returned from a fantastic week in Bulgaria however once in the air on way back to UK we were informed we needed to land back at the airport for 'technical problems'. I must point out, this I'm not bothered about as I would like to get home safe. We then sat on the plane on the runway for 2 hours, given a quarter of a cup of warm water! Not great in 34 degree heat and poor AC. Due to the flight being delayed back to Manchester I arrived too late for my last train (pre booked advance ticket) which I needed to return to just outside London. I understand these are non refundable. However I was then stuck with no way of getting home, fortunately I had a friend in Birmingham to stay with so had to buy another single ticket and kip there the night, I then had to purchase another ticket to return home the next day.

My query is wether I can get my missed and extra train tickets refunded by the airline as I was expected to land at 1800 for my train at 2009 instead landing at 1955 and missing it. I felt I had left enough time if it was even slightly delayed, it turns out I was only 10 mins late for my train with a 2 hour delay! In total all tickets were nearly £100 which I would obviously appreciate back!

Sorry for the long story and thanks if you are able to help!

I would send a letter along with a copy of the rail ticket and a copy of the rail ticket receipt, explaining your issues.

Only way to find out is contact then via phone first then send a letter.

You should have made enquiries at the airport and explained your situation.
A similar thing happened to me and they arranged overnight accommodation

And then got home how? The OP would still have lost the money paid for the original tickets & had to buy new ones.

Check T&Cs. Do they cover for consequential loss due to a delay caused by an unexpected incident

If the airline doesnt cover it, you could also check with your travel insurance provider.

As pcombo says - write to the airline with copies of all of your tickets and a letter explaining, see what they say.

I had a somewhat similar situation when, on holiday many years ago, the airline cancelled my return flight so the tour operator had to send us to a different airport. We were repaid our overnight hotel costs (the times had changed) and the cost of the unused rail ticket.

Nowhere near similar. Airline cancelling flight is nothing like aircraft having to turn back due to a fault.

They should cover your consequential costs of missing your arranged travel, they won't refund your booked travel, as this would have been taken anyway had you not been delayed.

Is it covered under any travel insurance you had?
