Remote car key battery flat

Hi,
We have an old rover 45, and the remote key function stopped working. How do you change the battery? There is no obvious opening bit on the key fob. And while we of course can lock/unlock the car manually, it sets the alarm off. Ther I a number on the fob that probably is the battery type, bot hoe do you open the thing?

Grateful for any advice!

You may need to get a new key made. Our keys are similar (no access to the battery) so I assume when they will no longer charge a new key is required.

My Rover 600's key fob batteries frequently ran down - I just bought the battery from my local independant car spares shop, and they changed the battery for me there and then.

Get your finger nails in between the top loop sections and pry it apart.

    Thanks all!
Ballet shoes and molerat, if we manage to do this, will the key need to be re-programmed or something?

Once new battery is fitted, press the unlock button several times, it will find the code - the process is in the handbook if you have it

    The battery is flat?

    It's a CR2032 battery, so it's meant to be flat. :p

    Seriously, the procedure is:-

    1) Take back off fob and remove dead battery.
    2) Press any button for about 5 seconds to discharge capacitor
    3) insert new battery
    4) unlock car with key
    5) press lock on fob until car locks.

I get through a battery change every six weeks on my 600 fob. Good job I bought in bulk from ebay.
