Winchelsea Sands and Rye

We are going to Winchelsea Sands near Rye for our Sun £9.50 holiday in October Half Term. Has anyone been to this caravan park and let us know what it's like? Or could recommend things to do with an active 4 year old in the area.
Thanks.

My mum had a caravan on this site and lived there permanetly and we would often take our 3 kids down to see her every holiday.
There is a small park on site although the equipment is mainly for the bigger kids with things like fireman poles but there are swings. If you walk out of the site and cross the road there is a huge field with a really nice park on and you can follow the field to the beach. If you
walk through the field and then turn right at the footpath that goes alongside the beach there is a really good value for money cafe about 10 minute walk down there. (It doesnt look much from the outside)
Im not sure if the pool is open in october time as I remeber taking the kids before and it was closed all week. (You may have to check)
They have an entertainments team consisting of two people and they have a kids disco each evening which the kids love although the adult entertainment is a bit lame at times. I dont know if they still do it but they would always do a pirate treasure hunt thing were basically one of the entertainments team would dress up as a pirate and run around the site with the kids chasing him. They would always end up in the park in the end were they would capture him and get the treasure. (May be worth taking some pirate dress up to get in the spirit of things)
If you go into hastings you have the smugglers cave (which may be a bit scary for a 4 year old) There is also the sealife centre which is quite small though and takes about 40 minutes to do but little ones love it. There are also cable cars if you go into the old town which the kids enjoy, as well as the usual seaside amusments and rides which can cost a fortune.
There's not actually much to do in winchelsea itself as its a small village with a park, beach and co-op so if you want a day out go into rye or hastings.
We used to take the bikes with us as there are alot of flat paths around winchelsea if you go the park way.
If you need to know anything else let me know. Hope this helps0 -
Wow, thank you for that. Especially the tip for the nice park and cafe.
The pool closes on 30th Sept. But never mind! There is a pool in Rye that will will use if the weather is terrible. I think the small boy will love the disco. :j Cheers.0 -
I went there a few months ago.
just to point out that a mobile fish and chip van parks up in the car park of the pub next to the caravan park on a Friday evening and is much better value and nicer than the food they do in the club house.
I dont have kids so didnt go to the park over the road but I did walk past it to go to the beach and it looked great0 -

Hello I don't know about the park, but I know the area. Your nearest town in Rye, market day is on Thursday, it gets quite busy than, and the car parks get full, just saying in advance. No big supermarkets in Rye, small Budgens/Jempsons (it called both), so your nearest supermarkets will be Hastings, Morrisons, Asdas etc, not sure you wanted to know that, but it's a top question I've been asked by people who visit the area.
As well as the attractions one of the posters has said, there is Clambers in Hastings, an indoor play area for children http://www.clambers.co.uk/ if the weather is bad. There is drusillas in Alfrison but I guess that is weather dependent: http://www.drusillas.co.uk/ Sealife centre is good, but quite small. I can't find whether or not it's open latter end of October, but this is good interesting for children: http://www.rhdr.org.uk/ It's a ride on a steam train If you like farms this is ideal, and just looked it's open end of October http://www.rarebreeds.org.uk/ but is weather dependent.
Hope this helps. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0
