Arcam alpha 6 CD player fault

My Arcam alpha 6 CD player has stopped working! I have removed the top cover to see exactly what's happening - the CD loads OK, but doesn't spin. It starts to turn, then stops & the display shows "ERR".
Bit of a long shot, I know, but does anyone have a clue what the fault might be? Or can they suggest a forum I could look at??
Cheers!

It could well be that the CD transport has gone.
If that is the problem, then they can be replaced.0 -
Generally speaking, I wouldn't have thought a CD drive to be repairable without some degree of specialist knowledge and the specialised tools and test gear that go with that knowledge.
You could try over at https://www.avforums.com, but I wouldn't be hopeful of much beyond 'take the drive out and replace it with a new one'......
Make sure you don't look into that laser, now....... Wouldn't want to read about you in the papers.....0 -
I had similar with a nad player. The disc is spun while the lens tries to focus on it. If it fails to focus it gives an error or no disc message. Cleaning the lens may help.

Sometimes drives can be repaired with a clean and an oil, and other times not.
I've got 3 replacement transports for my Hi-Fi's CD player (not an Arcam), which should hopefully cover all my needs!0
