hi there
is there any chance for a carer to apply for a personal loan,(where?) ,she had to stop working to look after her husband,a year ago, would the lenders accept this if she say her job is to look after her husband (she's getting careres Allowance and she can prove that is able to make payment every month),she don't have a pay slip or employer but her bank statrment shows her care allowance+her husband benefits (need loan for renewing house),do u know any lenders,
many thanks for any good advise

Maybe one of the local co-operative schemes could help but I doubt any bank would give a loan for a significant amount of money without excess interest rates0

You don`t say where you are.
But doubtless there will be a credit union in your area.
Approach one of those, which no doubt will be helpfull for your type of loan request.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Is the work that needs to be done stuff that could be covered by a Disabled Facilities Grant? https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/HomeAndHousingOptions/YourHome/DG_40006420 -

Yeh, but don't you have to be a member first and have had regular savings going into the pot?
For those that aren't involved with credit unions, you either sell or pawn valuables, or approach any one of the number of loan companies that will consider that type of risk.
I'm not being unhelpful, but I am fed up with people telling others to go to a credit union - without explaining some of the conditions attached to borrowing money from them.

Hi, I agree most CUs ask for about 12 weeks membership before a loan application can be made but my local CU let's you borrow up to £100 for a first loan without a prior membership but only with an agreement to save a certain amount at the same time as paying the loan back i.e. for the £100 you may have to pay £4 a week but £2.00 of that is savings. I can't see many CUs lending more than that for a first loan without a prior savings account with them.0 -

Unfortunately, the only likely lenders are those who have astronomical interest rates (unless, of course, she is a member of a credit union, but from what you have posted I don't think this si the case).
Is the loan for something for the carer, or for the cared for person? If it is for the cared for person, a grant may be available, depending on what they need. This can take some time, but might be worth checking.
If the loan is for the carer herself, then depending on what it is for, there are some grants available for carers breaks - this has a different meaning in different areas. In my area, it doesn't necessarily mean a break where you go away from home for a few nights, it can mean a cinema pass, help with housework, ironing or gardening, or massages.0 -

Where do you get these grants from? I've tried my LA and the County Council and have drawn a complete blank.
As for the carer, who pays for these houshold chores to be carried out.
As far as I can see, you are on your own nowadays - the days of home helps, etc , paid for by the council have long gone, as have the respite places for mentally ill people to give the carer a break.
I used to go into respite about 4 times a year, the place has now been sold by the local NHS Trust for conversion into private flats.0
