You may like to consider http://www.asiatravelexperts.com/ and see what they have to offer.

John and Aileen are well known South East Asia specialists agents in Australia and I have booked many times through them and have met them at travel expos in Melbourne. They have been around the traps a number of years in Australia and know 'what's what' . They now run women only tours if you are interested. They are also Bali specialists if you don't want to join an organised tour.

Bali at Christmas is absolute peak period. Often hotels (but not all) have mandatory charges for Christmas and New Years Eve dinners at megre $$$ (you have to pay but are not forced to attend) It is also the wet season and hit and miss with the rain. We was in Bali from Boxing Day- 6th January this year and the rain was torrential for three days before our departure and was very glad to leave. Some years it has been wetter and others dryer and you just can't pick it.

As a female I'd recommended Sanur around the Griya Santrian, Villa Shanti and Besakih hotels which is central Sanur and not too far to walk to lovely restaurants. and a lovely beach scene. Trips can be organised easily outside or from within the hotels.

If you decide on Bali... enjoy :-)

You have really inspired me, I've always wanted to visit Thailand Loa and Vietnam,. Thank you if you can do it I can do it

Off to get planning, If I don't I won't go and be 100 saying if only I went! Looking forward to seeing your thread updated

Go for it! Don't worry about doing it all yourself, it's easy. I didn't have time for Laos as I decided to travel overland but I met people who booked cheap flights in Siem Reap to Luang Prabang.

The flight you've found to Bkk seems expensive, I only paid £600 direct to HK and booked it a month in advance. I paid £1k last year for premium economy to Singapore too. It might be worth looking at flying to KL as loads of Air Asia flights are from there.

I stayed at about 10 hotels on my trip, some were recommended on here, some I chose myself from research on trip advisor.

My main bit of advice that I wish someone had told me was don't take a backpack and take a wheely suitcase instead! I got so sick of the backpack, I wanted to destroy it at several points. As I'd borrowed it I had to keep carrying the stupid thing.

    :rotfl:

I can't handle my back pack from the car to where I've set my tent up at festivals! Was with a friend a few years back upon walking to our tent we decided we could never go "Backpacking" was pure hell. Thanks for the top tip

I will keep an eye on flights, need to save some money up first . The hard bit :(

Oh I've done the shared chalet in Verbier back in er 08ish was a good week, not sure I'd do it again though.

I was thinking somewhere with a proper night life, challet is just to get the single accomodations

If anyone can suggest places to stay in Bang kok etc that would be a great help Just found a flight with Qantas 9th Dec to 8th Jan for £869.29 return to Bang Kok :) will need to save a bit before I book the flight but gives me a price idea.

It's all a bit daunting knowing what hotels to stay in! I'd like to go down to Koh Samui in Thailand. I think I need to get a map tour book and work out a route and what I want to see along the way!

    http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/uk/bkkt/december-2012/january-2013/cheapest-flights-from-united-kingdom-to-bangkok-in-december-2012-and-january-2013.html

Should be able to find something under £600.

    try some other destinations.

as has been said KL comes up a lot with cheap local connections.

have a look at previous deals on here and hotukdeals for hints.

I think these days once in the zone you have the internet and people as a backup flexable itinerary with main goals is usefull.
