UPVC window are installed by putting them in the hole drilling in to the brick work around the frame and fastening the frame to the walls on all sides with huge fixings (large raw plug and screw type things).
The glass goes in and you use spacers to ensure it is central and then you put the beading back in. you then seal them with silicone sealant that is sutable for UPVC.
If you are able just remove a pane of glass from one of your existing windows and you will see how they are fitted. Just make sure you get the measurements correct so the new ones fit the holes in the walls and your laughing, they need 2 people to install the bigger windows but smaller ones can be done on your own but easier with 2. You will proberbly be able to see a few of the fixings if you have any windows that open.0 -
if you are an experienced hand at diy, then installing/replacing most windows will not give you any problems.
bay windows will require at least 2 hands and some extra equipment. props etc...Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks guys for your feed back, so lets see if i have got this right:-
1. Measure the window opening (hole in the wall) and depth. Or do I measure the dimensions of the exsiting frame?
2. Order new windows
3. Fit window and Pack out frame till it is level with wedges.
4. Screw window frame to wall without buckling.
5. Fit window and beading
6. Seal window frame with silcone
Anyone know of a good window supplier?
Thanks
Tim
