Car insurance question....

My husband and I both have cars insured with different companies but both with protected no claims. Our cars are parked at the rear of the house on a private road which is accessed by a narrow entrance. We've lived here 30 years and never had a problem getting in and out of the area to park. On Thursday when I got home the car at the end house was protruding from their little driveway area which meant I had to alter the angle at which I swung into the parking area.....whilst making sure I missed the rear of that car I hit the wall at the other side causing some minor bumps, damaging the wheel trim and scratching the rear door. I decided that, as I had protected no claims, I would make a claim for the repair which I've now done. Fast forward to today when I rang to cancel my husbands insurance as I'd found a cheaper quote.....she asked me if I minded going through things again with her to see if they could do it any cheaper and of course this time I had to declare the incident on thursday and it increased his premium by £138!! Surely that can't be right can it?
My little wall scrape was counted as an accident with me being totally at fault so does that mean if I'd have gone head on into someone and written off their car it would be counted as the same? It really doesn't seem fair that my husband is penalised!
Also if I changed my mind about making the claim because nothing has happened with it yet would I still have to declare it when I renew either policy?
Sorry that seems a long explanation but it just feels such an unfair way of doing things IF the customer service rep has it right... TIA

Assuming that you are insured to drive his car then it seems ok to me that his insurance will cost more.

You are statistically a greater risk now.

You will have to declare it in as an accident/incident.

Shouldn't claim unless the cars a mess, especially just for a rear door you could get repaired or pick up one from the scrappy probably for less than the excess.

Too late now even if you cancel the claim you've already told them of the accident.

The excess is only £100 and the damage is probably about £500 - having only claimed once before in 33 years of driving (when someone ran into me on the motorway) I'm extremely peeved that one minor incident involving nobody else has such an impact on the premium - it raised it by 33%

and for the next 5 years
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Yes - unfortunately I'd worked that one out as well!
