There aren't any AEON ATM machines at the airport. You can map out the locations by looking here

Today being Sunday...opening a bank account on a Sunday? In a branch? What madness is this?! Along the same lines of being open 8am to 8pm M-F, I guess.

I do think as far as customer service they really cannot be beat.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

While I do applaud their opening hours and general attitude, they were about as useful as a chocolate teapot when some money I transferred into my Metro Bank account from First Direct failed to appear. After several days going between FD (who were very helpful) and MB (who just said "nah.. sorry, can't see it in the computer") from abroad I tried to get MB to take a call directly from FD. At that point MB finally got their act together and suddenly found that the money had been in their system all along.

Not a disaster, and I'm still a big fan of their debit card, but it did shake my confidence in their customer service a little.

^that doesn't surprise me...... Their internet banking isn't too intuitive and their call centre sounds like it's staffed by sixth formers, but they mean well.

Are there any alternatives to Metro Bank for getting cash abroad? The thing about having the debit card produced there and then is: they're quite thin. Anyone else noticed this?

I tend to use the card in Brazil and it can be a real pain. Using an ATM there involves inserting and removing a card at least twice, and if the machine doesn't manage to read the card on one of those times... you have to start again. It can get frustrating, but Metro Bank have told me I can't get a thicker card produced :(

You could try Norwich and Peterborough. Their Visa Debit card (with a Gold Classic or Gold Light account) levies no fees either.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have an alternative on standby, just in case.

Hi Insurgente. Just to confirm that our debit/credit cards aren't in fact thinner than others, they are an industry standard size. Really sorry to hear that you've been having problems with the cash machine, perhaps a replacement card would solve these?

Yes it was on a Sunday which was great for me as was in London with work so could go Sunday afternoon.

Didn't get any dog biscuits as I don't have a dog :( I did however get a nice free pen.

Come across one annoying thing though, was told my account was manageable online now I have opened it, but turns out you can't change your security number for online banking unless you go into the branch which is beyond annoying! I know it so can log into my account but wanted to change it for a better one but am now unable to......I hope I don't come across anymore annoying bits like this. As tbh even if I lived in London I'd be annoyed at having to go into a branch to do that.
