Working Tax Credit Overpayment

Hi
was wondering if anyone can give me some advice please.
I had a letter saying that I had been overpaid WTC for tax year 09/10, I wrote to them stating that I had informed them of my changes and felt that it was not my error, they then replied saying that I had not fulfilled all my obligations to them and was responsible for the repayment.
I wrote again, no point ringing to be on hold for 20 minutes!!! and said that I felt they had disregarded the points raised in my previous letter and that I had rung to inform them of my income change to ensure that an overpayment didn't happen and because I was told, leave it till July, that situation had now happened. this has been going on for a year, I then received a phonecall on Thursday afternoon from a member of their team saying that they had looked at my points again and I HAD fulfilled all my obligations in informing them of any changes but he then proceeded to tell me that they had fulfilled their obligations too so I still had to pay them back,
I pointed out to him that I had informed them of the changes early enough to stop something like this happening and as they agree I had met all my obligations I can't understand what more I was supposed to do. I did lose the plot a bit because it was like talking to a brick wall. He did say if I want to put in a letter of complaint I was more than welcome to do this and was just wondering if anyone else had done this and some pointers on the best way to word this and if anyone has had any sucess with this??? The overpayment is £468.11.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction!!!!
Thanks

When did you originally phone with the change of income, and when did you eventually give the figure?0

I know it is of no help but you dont have any choice, whether they made a mistake or not.
You just cant get out of a repayment I'm afraid. The only thing I can suggest is ask them for a payment plan. They could actually just take the whole lot from any future entitlement.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
^^ this. Be grateful it is only £468, I had to repay £1100 in 2007 despite keeping them up to date with my circumstances.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Yes agree with McKneff, whoever is at fault it still needs paying back and legally they are fully entitled to it back even if the error is not your fault. Agreed to, that the best that can be arranged is to ask for an affordable payment plan. Assuming you still receive WTC, perhaps ask for a £20 deducation per month from your WTC towards the repayment as a starting point for negotiation."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. I informed then on 11 April and they told me to wait till July. It is just annoying that even though you let them know a change in circumstance they don't act on it until 3 months later, he did say it is not their policy to stop payments immediately to which I told him his policy needs looking at then!!!!! I am still going to put in a letter of complaint and see what happens we no longer receive WTC but as I am the sole earner in the house as hubby no longer entiltled to ESA although still on the sick I will obviously have to arrange a payment plan with them.
