EBAY or autotrader?

Hi guys,

I have bought myself a new car and I have my v reg 2.0L ford cougar to sell. My question is which site have people had most success on out of Ebay and autotrader?

It isn't a high value car, (circa £400-£500), therefore which would people recommend? If i am right autotrader is about £10 and ebay £13-15. Also if ebay is good am i best running it as an auction or classified listing?

thanks
Andy

  • it might also be worthwhile posting up on Ford or Cougar forums as these cars are becoming rarer GLWS.

For what its worth I tried to sell a car of similar value a while back, I would NEVER use Ebay again, had nothing but hassle, people not replying to messages, not showing up, etc. Every time you have to shell out for the listing fee as thats non-refundable. (you get the final value fee refunded)

I know of several other people that have had the same problems selling cars on Ebay.

I ended up selling it through a sales group on facebook of all places, someone picked it up and paid cash within 24 hours of me putting the pic on there.

you could try gumtree it is free
  • Stick it on pistonheads for a tenner, it will be worth spending the money as it is almost guaranteed to sell.

i've sold a few cars on ebay over the years , always used a classified listing , never had any problems , sold them all within a few days.

I have never known Pistonheads to charge for listing a private advert but it's been a while since I listed a car on there.

AutoTrader charge £9.99 for vehicles priced under £1,000 (2 weeks advert on web).

thanks for all the help and advice guys.

Listed on gumtree and already had 3 inquiries and one guy coming tomorrow. Will see how it goes and may go with autotrader.

the ford cougar forum sadly needs a min of 30day membership before advertising and pistonheads now charge
