Agent's - can I re-negotiate fees ?

Did something stupid ! Signed with an estate agent to sell house before reading this board. Seems that the fee is negotiable by all agents from what I read, and the norm is 1%. They're asking me for 1.25% and I'm locked in for 28 days.

My question is, is it worth me asking for them to nicely 'change' it - 'knew a friend that got charged 1%' ,or 'other agent has offered 1%' etc. - or take it off the market for a month and go to a cheaper agent ? Is ths normal ?

They've already started to market the property, glossy brochures, ad in paper, sign etc. and i'm in no great rush to sell, as I haven't found a suitable property yet, although I want to avoid the HIP fees so would market before 1st June.

From a novice,

Thanks.

You wont get 1% everywhere, most will charge around 1.5%, so I wouldnt worry too much.. And to be honest they are very unlikely to let you reduce the fee.. You might aswell go with it and if nothing happens in 28 days (probably + 2 weeks notice) you can always change agent or renegotiate.
