Natwest loans and PPI

I requested an SAR from Natwest in June and they sent me a letter in July with a breakdown of all of my loans that I had with them over the years (they sent this due to the high demand of SAR letters that they are getting. )

Feel sick to the stomach when I realise how much I have borrowed over the years and how much in the Shoite that I still am!

Oh well - hopefully if I can get some PPI back it will put a dent in some of the debt!!

The letter breaks down the loans as follows :-
APP DATE Acc No SORT CODE Amount DATE CLOSED Insur Pre
08.03.99 @@@ ~~~ 1,150 ???? NIL
21.08.02 @@@ ~~~ 13,000 20.09.07 £3,289
08.10.03 @@@ ~~~~ £14,500 05.07.05 £3,847
05.07.05 @@@ ~~~~~ £21,000 25.01.07 £5,452
23.01.07 @@@ ~~~~ £25,000 16.03.2009 NIL
12.03.09 @@@ ~~~~ £25,000 NA (Still running)

I think the earlier loans were face to face at branch but the latter ones were over the phone.

When I send in the questionnaire will I have to put 1 each in for each of the loans with PPI on?

Thanks a lot folks for all that you do on here (even though I am still VERY confused!)

Yes, but be sure to make the bank aware that these were consolidation loans (assuming they were, being so close together) and that PPI interest from the previous loans was doubtless loaded onto the subsequent loans.
  • Thanks moneyineptitude.

I haven't done anything re my claim since my last posting as "filed" the paperwork re loans and PPI and then couldnt locate it. Just managed to find it in a locker at work so on with it again!

I have a few queries re the questionnaire that needs filling in....

b4 - does it matter if I put cant remember at this point? I felt that there was an implication that I did but cant remember if they were direct about it.

b6 - I have had several consolodation loans. The situation with the PPI was that it got transferred onto the next loan - what do I put as my answer as nothing seems to fit here ?!?! Should I add this to the end of the questionnaire?

c3 I cant remember who my debts were with when I took out the loans - natwest O/D, natwest loan and a variety of credit cards I think - do I just put this as my answer??

D5 (pay from an employer) Loan 1 with PPI - I would get 5mths full and 5mths 1/2 pay if sick. Loan 2 and 3 with PPI - I would get 6 months full and 6 months at 1/2 pay if sick. Good redundancy package in place.

Then D6 asks "if you hadnt been able to work (because you were ill, in an accident or had been made redundant), would you have had any other way of making repayments? Confused as to what to put as answered above?!

Just remember that the questionnaire is a generic one; meant to cover many different types of complaint. Therefore it's perfectly acceptable to put "Don't know", "Not applicable" or "Can't remember" to a lot of the questions (as long as they don't impinge on your actual complaint).

    Thanks once again moneyineptitude!!

Is this ok to send as my reasons for mis-sell?

I am unhappy with this insurance as I believe it was a front loaded policy. PPI was put on the loan and I paid this back to term end or until my loans were consolidated.

I explained to the Natwest staff that I felt that I had good protection from work due to their sickness pay, redundancy package and the package that they provided if I had to leave work due to illness. They implied that I would not get the loan if I failed to take out PPI.

The PPI was expensive and I wasn’t informed that I could get this elsewhere.

This was the first time that I took PPI out on a loan and it ran from Aug 02- Sept 07. dates altered for each loan I am claiming on.

Please could I remind you again at this stage that these were consolidation loans and that PPI interest from this loan was loaded onto subsequent loans - one of which I am still paying. .

    Any criticism and help appreciated!!!!!!!!!

You should use more certainty, say that the loan was front-loaded with PPI which was paid as a single monthly premium to attract the maximum amount of extra interest. Also state that when the loan was consolidated you were therefore still paying for PPI and interest on the first and subsequent loans!
I explained to the Natwest staff that I felt that I had good protection from work due to their sickness pay, redundancy package and the package that they provided if I had to leave work due to illness.
    This is valid.
They implied that I would not get the loan if I failed to take out PPI.
    This is hearsay

The banks tied agents were and are under no obligation to tell customers that they can shop elsewhere. Remove this sentence.

    Repeating yourself.

I also hope you're not going to use the colour scheme you used for your post in your complaint-it makes my eyes hurt!
  • Thanks again moneyineptitude. Defo wont be using that colour scheme and sorry for hurting your eyes! Will alter the questionnaire and send off recorded post tomorrow - will keep you posted.

  • Hi!

Just a quick update re Natwest claim. Received 6 letters last week offering goodwill gestures totalling £9,500!!!!!!

Managed to mislay the envelope to send the acceptances back, phoned Natwest and got the address, posted letters off, chased several times, letters still not received as of today! Oh hum!!

Natwest sending the letters out again today! Hopefully won't lose the envelope when received!!
