HSBC complaints process

Hi,
Does anyone know how long HSBC are supposed to take to answer a complaint? I made a complaint over the phone last Monday and since then there has been silence.
It's quite a serious complaint so when my OH rang them again Monday night he was told it has been passed "up the ladder" so to speak.
But since then when we have tried to ring for more information, no one can tell us who is dealing with this or what is happening. It's really frustrating as we have since had some more information to back out case up but can't find anyone at HSBC to pass it onto.

Isn't it 8 weeks to answer a complaint?0

oh no really?
we've already had the sale of our house delayed a week 'cos of their incompetance sorting out a redemtion statement for the mortgage. I can't see the buyer sticking around for another 7 weeks

They should acknowledge in writing within a week and then have up to 8 weeks to give a final response.0
