I have decided to try IMAP rather than POP3 for my mail settings - I use Thunderbird and am having problems changing the server
I need to change the port to 143 also - but when I try - it reverts to POP3 with port 110
Any suggestions / advice welcome

Does mail app being used support imap? You need to tell is to use imap, not just change ports.

You will need to delete the account and re-create it using the new IMAP settings, you can't just change from POP to IMAP as they are 2 different protocols. Beware though, when deleting that account before recreating it, to move/copy all your messages to a 'local folder' within Thunderbird, so they can be moved back onto your newly created IMAP account.

Why do you want to try IMAP ?

Pop3 is perfectly adequate for 99% of users, You need to be more techie with IMAP.
