How are you financially linkd?

I'm only linked by CT..
There is no 'getting round' tax credits, benefits are calculated at a couple rate and both incomes are taken into account.0 -
no, no need to add him to the bills. he can just pay you his share.
And yes, for benefits you have to say he is living with you as your other half, but that's seperate. that doesn't involve some credit check.0 -
No apart from CT.
As the above poster said you don't need to add him to bills.
As for benefits, you will be considered as a couple and it is expected that his income will be your income, even if that is not how it works. There is no way around this, apart from him not moving in.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Im not financially linked with OH. Everything is in my name and he gives the money to pay bills.0

As others have said I'm not linked to my OH either - like your situaiton I was reluctant to let him move in due to his debts etc.
I set up a proper lodgers agreement with him, and charged him a set amount of rent which I then spent as I saw fit (e.g. towards bills etc).
I told the council I had a lodger and therefore got him added on to CT, but this does not link you financially - think of a house share.
I kept all bills and everything in my name only. So far seems to be working ok. I was nervous as he had his bank statements etc sent here so after about 6 months I paid for a credit check to see if I had been effected and it doesn't seem like I have at all.
I think its important to keep things in your name if you will be negatively impacted by being linked.
Good luck with it all!0 -
Same here, not linked financially, we get around the issue of paying for joint things like food (where one of us will nip to the supermarket on the way home to buy food for us both) by having an AA Spend and Earn card in my name with him as an additonal cardholder, it's prepaid so no issues with overdrafts or debt, we both put money on each month and have our own cards.0
-
I may be wrong but I think living at the same address as someone links you financially to them!
My OH never had any joint bank accounts or mortgage or anything with his ex but when he looks at his detailed credit report he can see the people he is financially linked with and she is one of them...0 -
it does show who you live with, but that includes your parents or flatmates, it doesn't link you to them UNLESS yu have a joint thing.
For joint expenses, i have a credit card in my name and he has a 2nd card so food goes on that or meals out together.it stll doesn't link us.
The only issue would be benefits but that just depends on whether you are a couple or not, rather than any linking. You;d be financially linked with your flatmate if you had a joint mortgage or bank account. They would not be included for benefit calculations though.0 -
HE wants to move in?
You're worried about financial stuff?
So he could be moving in (entitling him to a share in your home if you own it), taking further credit out at your address, etc, etc....
Do YOU want him to move in?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

!
Be careful with this if you are on benefits OP! If you claim your OH is just a lodger and they find out he is not you could loose your benefits.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
