What you save on fuel, you more than spend on buying the car in the first place...... Plus they have a huge environmental impact, due to the materials used in their construction.
They're marketed toward idiots who don't bother to research the facts before they buy.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You would not want to be so harsh, especially when we are doing research/facts findings? It would be helpful if you had presented the facts here so novice like me could benefit from it??

Perhaps im suggesting you Google it? There's a whole wealth of knowledge out there...... But do it now whilst there is still an amount of "net neutrality" left, in a few years time this sort of information (anything that goes against the status quo) will have been removed and filtered out of existence, all under the guise of stopping online piracy.
Search "hummer v prius" and search around from there.
There's also THIS which suggests it would take 9 years to make the extra money back in fuel savings.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I don't see the point of a hybrid, but thats just my own opinion, I seen some good reviews with Robert Llwellyn, ex Red Dwarf, who test drive's them for his own video podcast, google 'fully charged' or search you tube for the same, and you can watch his video's, to me they are alot more honest than the like of Clarkson et al, but again thats only my opinion.
If you are getting them, my best advise is go out and see them in the show rooms and decided from there, the Auris Hybrid gets quite good review from Llewellyn and it's not quite as big as the Prius, but again depends on what you're looking for, sheer comfort had Lexus CT200h, or even more upper level is the Lexus RX450h, I think Infiti also have M30h(not sure of the model name if it's correct) but thats you heading to nearly £50k.
It really does depend on what you want, these days you also have the Nissan Leaf, pure electric, nice drive, limited to about 100 mile range, (which I can vouch for, well on my roads anyway) or range extending Vauxhall Ampera, or Chevrolet Volt, which if you were paying £25k for a Prius range topper, you'd be better with the Ampera, 50 miles on electric and then a further 300 miles with the petrol, so if you only have small journeys this might be good and longer journeys you have the petrol to keep you going between charges.
Again depends on what you need.
Don't worry too much about the doubters on here, you get kind of used to them, but it is also down to opinion! Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -

clarkson pitted a prius against a 3.0D bmw, the BMW came out ontop, (wasnt a race but a MPG test).
in my opinion parts are so expensive for these cars when they go wrong out of warranty, many indi garages wont touch them so main dealer it goes, so you pay over the odds compared to a normal car for one, then you pay over the odds for parts, then you pay dealer prices for labour, electric cars you pay more on your electricity bill and recharge points are few and far between so you end up buying a normal run around becuase your fed up having to recharge and run out every 3-400 miles even less if your motorway driving reguarly paying out more in tax mot and insurance oh and dont forget the cars still need a service, so you pay extra for dealer servicing compared to normal cars. notice theres more PAY OUT MORE than SAVE!
if all is well with the car you buy you might start to SAVE after 9-10 years, and buy that time, youve probably got rid of it so you didnt save a penny.0 -

It's an unfortunate thing to say chap but you will find Strider is correct, they sell the vision, the truth is as destructive as a 1970 Cortina:A Do your research and come back and contradict if you will?

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
