Offering on more than one property

Wonder if anyone can help? We have seen a few houses that we would consider putting an offer in for. They are all very similar and there is not much to choose between any of them. A deciding factor could be the price we need to pay. Is there any reason why we can't put in offers on 3 or 4 properties with the same estate agent and go for the house which accepts the lowest bid? Does anyone have any experience of doing this and what do estate agents think of people doing this?

  • This week I have placed offers on 2 properties but one was refused before I placed the offer on another property. However the 1st property EA then came back to me today after I was in negotiations on a second property saying that they would accept my original offer. I refused it because this 2nd property was still £13k cheaper.

BUT what I did do this week when looking at properties I did inform the EA and vendor I was very interested in another property and am really weighing up the pros and cons.

I told them this because hopefully it would encourage the vendors to realise that if they want to sell their house then they may have to entice me (the buyer) with an incentive to definitely place offer ie. F&F included.

I could only do this because I am FTB and in very strong position. If I was someone who had not sold or in a big chain then I would not have tried this tactic. Basically it would have been a waste of time because vendors are likely to not be interested.

Why not? Our agent said that was fine as long as I told him was I was doing, so he could play along once the estate agents contacted him for information on the chain, etc.. You might not be able to bid on several properties if they are with the same agent, but you can always try.. Its not binding anyway.
