Dealership prices are just unrealistic fantasy, i dont understand why anyone pays them.

    Exactly!

I've given up on main dealer for anything that isn't major now.

Service at a local garage = £120-ish all in (I get bits)

Service at dealer = £300 + VAT

I know where I'd rather go!

And how exactly does a steering rack fail on a car that has done so few miles?

There are only really two possible options:

    1) Your driving style isn't right -- and if so I'd be inclined to work out what you're doing wrong before this happens again, or

    2) The car is a pile of junk.

jase1, having suffered great financial pain putting right the bits of plastic that the Pluriel calls a roof, I'd refer you back to 2).

    3) Given that the OP has only had it a year, the previous owner knackered it, possibly bodged it to work for a bit or possibly was unaware of the imminent failure. Then they sold it to the OP.

Oh come on that's just not fair, it must be the op's driving style as a 7 year old Citroen, can't be be a piece of junk, can it, (mmmmmmm:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:mmmmm)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

A quick update - had my car towed to an independent garage and they fixed it (including recovery) for £650!!
ECU wasn't needed after all - they fitted a recon rack with a 12 mth warranty.
Feels like I won the lottery!
    Thanks for all the advice

So I guess that the garage is now on your favourite list?
That's my mutt in the picture above.

I would love to hear how 'driving style' can kill an otherwise fine rack in less than 30,000 miles.

    Dry steering won't help.

Still, in that case i refer you to (2).

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer and that's exactly what they would fit.
No, OEM is the manufacturer of the parts. lets say NGK for spark plugs these will be packaged into chitron branded boxes, to now be called GENUINE. This is what citron will be using not OEM

You can get NGK plugs in NGK boxes these are called OEM at half the price for NGK plugs in chitron boxes.

there is nothing stopping dearlership from using OEM parts from eurocarparts and charging for genuine but chitron wont get any revenue from the parts like they do from genuine, and wont be too happy when they find out.

    That is not strictly accurate.

They would only fit parts that come in a Citroen box. The OEM could also supply the exactly same part to KIA in a KIA box but it is unlikely that a Citroen dealer would fit it to a Citroen.
