:hello:
My yoghurt has gone past its use-by date:
Twice.Yes, it is over a year old.
But as I always say to people "if it looks ok, and smells ok, it's ok" I thought I'd test the theory. I'm not recommending that you try this!
Firstly, the lid wasn't "blown". So I opened it. Cautiously:
The first thing I noticed was that it didn't smell bad. I think I would have known if it was! So I stirred it up:
It's a bit thicker than normal (I'll pre-empt the "just like MBE" jokes here). I tasted it. It's ok!
So I'm going to make a chocolate yoghurt cake with it.
Still believe in use-by dates?
MBEIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

If we haven't heard from you by 6.00pm, we'll have to assume the worst then?0

Does this mean you haven't made your chocolate yogurt cake for over a year, or do you have something against this particular pot of yogurt?0

I've eaten yogurts a month out of date and never poisoned myself yet.
I keep telling myself, what would our pre-bbd ancestors have done? Used their eyes, noses and a tiny taste!!LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -

If the lid isn't distended and it smells ok and tastes ok,then fine.I would eat it.
Just to check though:the expiry date was May 2010?If so it's pretty impressive!
Mind you,why would you leave a yoghurt for so long in the fridge?
Hope the cake's nice!0 -

Yes, May 2010. You'll just have to trust me on the 2010 bit, as sadly it doesn't give a year on the lid.
I kept it as a kind of experiment. I forgot to use it until well past its use-by date, and thought I would hang onto it all the time the lid didn't blow. Here we are a year later.
The cake looks ok. Just need a bit of buttercream icing. :drool:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
