er - while I am NOT a slave to bb dates - I also try to use common sense!
and while you may have had MILD food poisoning in the past resulting in a couple of days of feeling poorly and some weight loss - severe food poisoning can result in death, several months of illness and permanent disability! so dont take it lightly hun. if the cans were ok, ie not blown or rusted then I shouldnt think they were unsafe!0 -
Remember, a BB date is just a nod towards the deterioration of quality, not that something has become unusable.
Not suggesting you do this, however it may be some 'food for thought' - pun fully intended0 -

Please post back tomorrow to confirm that I wasn't wrong about this.....
Well, the good news, unsurprisingly, is that there was nothing wrong with it, in fact, I had the best nights sleep of the week.A smile costs little but creates much0 -

Exactly - I think it is important to make the distinction between "best before" and "ude by" dates - the latter should be taken more seriously.0 -
I cannot resist this...How ill is it possible to get? Well that would have to be dead ill! :rotfl:
Seriously, if it smells ok then I would go with it.0 -
Don't underestimate how dangerous food poisoning can be but use common sense too.
As others have said, as long as tins are not rusty or blown, their contents should be fine for years.0 -
I've merged this with an older thread discussing whether or not people use out of date goods.
Thanks

I'm sure you all would know this already but I saw this article and thought of you
A bit of it was new to me!

 I just read one of the comments on the article
"I had a chicken in my freezer 17.5 years past use by date, I skinned it, portioned it and cooked in caserole with lemons and garlic, it was beautiful, fed me on my own for 5 days. "
I hope I'm never invited round their house for supper!0 -
Ive merged this with a thread discussing the same kinds of issues so users reading this thread in future can access that article
