You need to discuss this with your insurer.
Most policies have a 30 day period for unoccupancy - anything over this could result the policy being nullified or cover decreased.

You will definitely need to tell the insurer if the home is to be left unoccupied - check your policy docs for the number of consecuative days that they allow you to leave the home unoccupied.

They will probably require you to comply with certain conditions to continue cover. Ie the home to be inspected every (7?) days, water, electric to be turned off. You will probaly also have restrictions on the cover - sometimes as regards to theft and water damage.

Also check the smallprint on who will be covered if you let someone else stay over or give the keys to.

If its not a direct family member or someone registered as living there you may not be covered.

Check your policy: most allow for "holidays" of up to 30 days, but for some the limit is 90 days.

Otherwise, perhaps a member of your family might be able to visit and stay in your home every so often, so that it never gets left unoccupied for longer than 30 days. Come to that, you might make the occasional trip home.
