ATM gave me no £ but my ac was debited

I have an account with bos, and used my card in a clydesdale bank atm machine. I requested cash, waited a while then the machine spat out my card, without giving me cash. When I checked online, the money i had requested, had been debited from my account. This has happened twice in 2 weeks!
I have been into my own bank and complained about it, but I will not be getting the cash refunded into my account for a couple of weeks.
I am not happy at all about this as I needed the money to go on a night out that has been planned for some time. Now I will need to borrow the money from a relative, which I hate doing.

Agree it is indeed unfortunate, but it is not something one can do much about. A few preventive measures, if feasible enough to undertake are:
1. Always try and make your withdrawals from the bank branch or the ATM attached to the branch.
2. Always make deposits with receipt, so that you have a paper trail of the deposit (there is a reference that appears on most of the ATM slips, which can be matched against a similar roll that is printed within the ATM).
3. Try and spread out your withdrawals, e.g. draw £30-40 every week, instead of £200 at the end of the month. This ensures that if such a problem were to occur, it would be for a lower amount. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -
I must admit when this happend to me a few years ago (my bank was A&L and I withdrew it from a natwest machine) the money was credited to my account pending investigations.
It did take a few weeks but I received a letter saying that I was correct and that the money would not be debited from my account.2014 Target;

I try to avoid taking money from cash machines these days with all the inherent problems:
1. Cash withdrawal charges
2. 'Skimming' machines
3. My branch no longer deposits via cash machine
4. Nearer to go to supermarket (and saves on extra journey to bank)
Of course if I change banks to A&L I will have even less to travel to make deposits as this can be done at any Post Office - and take out money (presumably without risk of 'skimming')0 -
Indoor ATMs are much less likely to have been tampered with than outdoor ATMs. So whenever possible I withdraw from indoor ATMs.
Beware some ATMs deliver the money before returning the card. A+L are an example. Customers acclimatised to card first, money later may walk off before the A+L card materialises.
Seven - sorry re your specific problem. Hope it is resolved soon.0 -

Tell that to the people who get skimmed in the door scanner! It is very easy to trick people this way with an add-on or second scanner. BE SUSPICIOUS!0 -
"skimmed in the door scanner" - this sounds nasty, what is it? I'm guessing its when branches are shut for the night or weekend, and customers can enter the foyer (to use ATMs) by using their card in the front-door...?
I certainly don't recommend that. Ideally, use ATMs indoors during opening hours (ie when the bank/building society staff are present).0 -

Exactly, and the place is usually still full of tramps despite the door lock - they must have cashcards!0 -
It happened to me a couple of years ago using a Abbey card at Sainsburys Bank cash point at store, between both companies (ignoring my witness & joint a/c holder) both claimed I had infact been dispensed £50 when I had not, needless to say I moved all my thousands of pounds ( I was rich once you know!) in accounts, tessa's credit cards from Abbey so they lost more than £50 - interest alone on my Visa was about £180pm, they begged me to stay and they would credit the £50 and compensate £25, "too little to late" I politely told the manager, " I want to bank with a bank that has morals " making sure every customer heard it....from my balance on the said account I think it should have been pretty obvious i didnt need to lie about £50If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
I want to bank with a bank that has morals
