Help - Anyone heard of Northbrit Credit

My father in law passed away in March and after sorting out all his paperwork/statements we noticed a monthly £10 payment going out to a company called 'Northbrit Credit'. Tracing it back he had been paying it since 1986. There was no information in this records, there's nothing online, the bank don't know anything and in the three months since its been cancelled nobody has been in touch with us from the company. Can anyone shed any light on who this company is?

I have Googled And Found a NORTH BRITISH AND MERCANTILE INSURANCE COMPANY LIMITED (Now dissolved) and http://www.britishcredittrust.co.uk which is also closed to new business but still collecting money from customers. The 2nd looked to be car finance (which £10 seems to low for - tho not sure of car prices in 1986!)

Is there any kind of reference number on the bank statement.

A Google for "North British Credit" seems to find lots of people who used to work for them, but precious few details about the company itself, other than that it was part of NABG (maybe National Australia Bank Group?).
