Why are Barclaycard so stupid ?

Last month, and today, I got an application pack through the door for the Barclaycard Initial credit card. Fair enough. I've had my Capital One credit card for nearly a year now, everything always gets paid off on time, I've never been in debt and never missed any payments.

According to price comparison websites, and Experian I am very likely to be accepted for a Barclaycard Initial (I know these websites arn't very reliable).

But when I go on the Barclaycard pre-application website and fill it out, it says I'm not eligible for any card. Why do they send me application forms if I'm not eligible ? Although I can't understand why I'm not eligible.

presumably, it is conceivable that the information you provided when you entered data into the pre-application website, was previously unknown to Barclaycard.

Wouldn't barclaycard actually be stupider if they said "Herp Derp this guy is totally unsuited for any of our cards now that we've got their details, but hold on, we did send him a speculative letter inviting him to reply so we better warm the card printer up anyway".

Barclaycard pre-application check tells me I am more than 90% likely to be accepted for their card.
Yet I have twice been turned down when I went through with the application.

Gutted. They said I was 60% likely to get one, and mine arrived within 2 days of application.

    Weird old world isn't it.

The pre-application check may use a different credit reference agency from the full application. Call Credit, perhaps, because it has generally been cheaper to use. The full application would also have income information, unlike a mere check of credit agency records.
