Paying to much tax?

Hello, I have a question. I received my p60 in april and it says my earnings for the year was £8514, tax deducted £207 and my employer PAYE reference is 794/L1 and final tax code was 747L. As far I am reading, this is an emergency tax code, so should I be on this code? Or is it right?
My last months pay was £1040, I payed £72.80 on PAYE, NI £48.96 total deductions was £121.76 and my tax office ref is 794/L1 ad tax code is 810L.
I mean, I started working in aaugust 2011, they had this take code for me and I phoned them and got a refund and I did not pay tax until my january 2012 payslip when I noticed that it has gone back to 794/L1 tax code. Is it right or is it a mistake on there part?
Is this right? Am I meant to pay £72.80 tax a month? All help appreciated.

£72.80 is the right amount of tax a month based on the figures you gave.0

David is correct, join the club of the taxpayers.
Your Code now should be 810L ie enabling you to earn £8,105 this year before paying tax, (spread out over the year of course)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

747L is the normal tax code for someone under 65 so you are not on the emergency tax code. Your tax was also spot on if that was your only employment. My last months pay was £1040, I payed £72.80 on PAYE, NI £48.96 total deductions was £121.76 and my tax office ref is 794/L1 ad tax code is 810L.

You said 794/L1 is your employer's PAYE reference not your tax code. I think you're getting mixed up.Is this right? Am I meant to pay £72.80 tax a month? All help appreciated.
