Out of interest lol, what has been the largest overpayment people have seen for ctc on here as there seems to e a few large ones on here of late. I was just wondering....and do people always pay them back? Can they pay a small amount per month if they can't pay it back in one go?

I have seen about 6 that have been over the 50,000 mark, 1 was over 60,000.
Over the last 8 years, I would say at least half of the hundreds I have dealt with have involved overpayments over 10,000.
No people don't always pay them back. Some are written off, some are reduced, some are paid back slowly. Some are appealed successfully and disappear.

OMG they are really worrying figures icequeen. But how on earth do people get on overpayment on that level? Surely they must have known it was coming. Do many people get prosecuted?0

Mainly as a result of living together decisions, where a person has claimed as a single person but HMRC later decide they are a couple so everything paid in the last x years is an overpayment normally where there are 3 or 4 children and maximum childcare costs.

There was one lady who was sentenced to a prison term for £112k Tax Credit fraud/overpayment.
She basically made up disabilities for 3 of her 4 children (one was legitimately disabled), as well as her husband (who was in fact of sound mind and body), in order to pocket extra premiums on her Tax Credits.
I'm too new here to post links, but Google the term 'Fraud cash funded boy band obsession'.0 -
Just looked kolana
She only got two yrs in prison for all of that0 -

And that was over a period of around 7 years. Which is approx £16k per year. She would possibly have been entitled to that much, had her circumstances been correct. Which would equate to about £21k gross if tax and NI were added. Plus she'd have got various other allowances (in the way of prescriptions, etc). That's a lot of money that one might be entitled to for just 3 children.0 -
