Hi
I/ve just had the fixtures and fittings list for the house I am buying - on accepting my offer the guy said he would throw a "few extras" in...however he wants to charge me £100 for a "minging" carpet in the living room and is open to offers for the two bedroom carpets!! Very generously he is leaving me the hall carpet!!!!
After reading this thread I am going to refuse and as most people are saying he may leave them anyway....and if he doesn/t then I would have replaced them soon enough anyway ....
I can understand people wanting extra money for new carpets but not for manky old ones...and in the scheme of things the money is nothing!!!
Oh well I suppose it takes all sorts........by the way it looks like the extras he is leaving me is a Garden Shed!!!!! lol0 -
You are lucky - when we moved in we were left with bare wire in the wall - that was supposed to be safe - and had 3 year old twins at the time."This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA

It makes my situation seem fantastic... the outgoing lady was concerned whether or not she'd cleaned up enough for us.0

Just been reading this thread and am sooo pleased I am now living in and have just bought a house in Canada. Here EVERYTHING FITTED stays, so light fixtures, window fixtures, ceiling fans and flooring are all staying. I still didn't trust this and asked the estate agent to list everything on the offer. My aunt has just bought a house in N.Wales for 200K, and the vendors took everything, the light switches, lightbulbs etc as they didn't want to leave anything that wasn't 'paid for'. Cheeky b*****s. So the house I just bought has lovely brand new carpet, brand new laminate, gorgeous light fixtures. They'd done all this to sell the property- which worked, we bought it within hours of it being for sale. They're happy, we're happy!0

I thought in this country you had to leave light bulbs and you couldn't take light switches as you would be leaving the house unsafe. I would go back to solicitor to ask for compensation just to p' them off:D

you most certainly can't take the light switches ( some do take bulbs) unless specifically specified in the F+F list.
They are fixtures. They are fixed to the wall with screws!!!!!! Just as you cant take a fitted hob or oven unless specifying it. Just like you couldnt take a central heating system (a radiator is normally held to the wall with 4 screws. a light switch by 2. If you could take a light switch, whats to stop you taking the central heating???Anything I write is based on my opinion only. Before acting upon any advice from anyone on a forum further professional advice should be sought.0 -
When we sold our house we sold a number of items,
Fridge, Freezer, dishwasher, John Lewis Bathroom Cabinets x 2, all carpets, custom made curtains in all rooms (majority from John Lewis), all curtain poles etc, bathroom fittings. For the princely sum of £450. It cost us over £3500 to replace them!£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.
Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz0
