Meter Help

I got the keys for a housing association property back in March, on setting up my electricity account, it was found that I have a 3 rate meter as the property probably once had storage heaters. They said I was fine to keep it as the rate for heating water would never change due to the fact it doesn't get heated that way anymore. Otherwise I have to pay £50 to change the meter. I personally don't see why I should have to pay for something that should have been changed at the time the new gas heating was put it and also before my time. Well I have just received my online bill, which is based on an exact reading of my meter by one of their men. Somehow this water heating rate has changed even though it hasn't on the meter itself, so I have been charged for units that don't even exist. If I move to an alternative Electricity supplier whats my chances of getting them to change the meter free of charge? starting to get angry with scottish power!!!

Its likely that a new supplier will do it free in return for your business. Its also likely your current supplier will to retain you if they threaten to leave.
Is your opening reading correct and equal to the rate that isn't moving? Are you sure it isn't moving?
In terms of why it wasn't changed when rewired, that's an issue your landlord has caused by avoiding paying that cost themselves. They will also be causing you to pay more than you should by this dodge and that's something to dispute with them. The supplier wouldn't be at fault here and despite seeing rates not advancing, they would need someone to agree to the tariff change that would accompany the meter change.
Typical dodgy/corner cutting landlord.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Hi,
the three rate meter will be 1:day, 2:night, 3:control (heating), there should be no advance on 3, but rate 2 will advance overnight as you will still have fridge freezer on, and phone charger telly/sky, whatever, on standby0 -

No think the op is saying the supplier has estimated usage on r3Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I am aware that rate 3 shouldn't move and it hasn't moved since I moved in. I phoned up about 2 weeks ago with the meter reading and the man on the phone agreed it hadn't changed, that very same night a representative came out and read the meter. My new bill has been produced and somehow the reading on rate 3 has now moved and says its an exact reading. based on the previous reading on the bill rate 3 has still not moved. I've had nothing but bother since I moved in! I contacted my landlord and they claimed it was up to the previous tenant, which I dont agree with, but anyway they wont pay to have it changed.0

My advice is to take control yourself of the meter readings, dont rely on any meter readers getting it right.Work out which rate equals which periods and label your meter clearly to show it for any meter readers coming along.
I personally have never seen a domestic 3 rate meter, the only ones I see are pub meters where they have day, night, weekends. The domestic properties are always day, night, but show a third rate "T" for a total, which we dont use0 -

You normaly find them in flats or houses with underfloor a lotDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

E10, Heatwise, Warm wise, etc. If you're in the YELG region only, you won't see them but if you hop over into the NEEB border you would see Supertariff.
3 rate are seen in lots of regions such as LOND, EELC, EMEB to name a few. Even more bizarre combos in such as SPOW and HYDE.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
