If its your car and its registered to you it needs to be insured in your name not your parents.

If you insure a car that belongs to you in your parents name with you as a named driver, this is called fronting and is insurance fraud and your policy can be invalidated.

Insure the car in your name and build up your own no claims bonus. Try https://www.confused.com to get competitive quotes

    Sorry deals I will clarify
if the car is your partners car and you are adding your daughter on to this as a named driver and she will not be driving it much just occasionally then this is fine. However if it your daughters car, and your daughter eill be the one driving it mainly, you cannot insure it in your partners name with your daughter as a named driver.

    Hope this is clearer!

Get as many quotes as you can, confused.com is good for that there are a few others that search multiple insurance companies popping up now aswell.

Once you have the prices phone the cheaper ones up and see what they come up with on the phone and ask for discounts etc r is there anyway I can mak the cost cheaper. It all depends on the car aswell don't go buying a 2l car go for something like a 1.2l corsa if the car is old consider third party fire and theft or upping the excess they will all bring the quotes down but for 17 year old it isnt going to be cheap.

Directline were pretty good when I was 17 I was on my dads insurance as I only used it to go to college his premium went up by about £300. iceicebaby is correct in that if your daughter is the primary driver she will need her own insurance, insurance companies have refused to pay out in cases where kids insured their cars in their parents names.
Another option that my sister used was to buy a new car with free insurance being 18 insurance was £1800 for her first personal insurance policy on this car dropping to £1600 for the 2nd year. Bear in mind that her payments for the car were about £150 a month it ended up the car cost her nothing for the first year, sell the car and buy another with another free insurance offer. Yes she lost a bit in depreciation but it wasnt as much as the cost of the insurance so she drove a new car for the year and it cost her about £1200 - £1300 in depreciation over all.
