Travel Insurance - Transiting USA only - which zone?

I'm about to book our travel insurance for our trip to New Zealand in November.
The form is asking where we are going and the two worldwide options are "Worldwide including the US" and Worldwide excluding the US".
Our flight home stops in Los Angeles but we are only going to be in transit for a couple of hours. Does that mean I need the "including the US" option?

Yes - you should include the US.
If anything were to happen to you on the brief stay in the US you'd be in deep lumber. The possibility may be remote but it's not non-existent0 -

Contact the insurance company: they might be able to work something out.
Alternatively: get just medical cover for the day(s) on which you will be in the USA. Probably the only company that would do this for you is Global Nomads, who are based in Australia but insure people living in most developed countries.0 -
