Monitor problems - Help!!

Bit of an odd one but when I turned on my PC yesterday (desktop), there seems to be a problem with the monitor.
I can log in fine, no issues with that but it initially looks as if there is no picture on the screen. On closer inspection, using a torch, I can see my wallpaper but it's almost as if the contrast needs turned up (which I have tried obviously).
I have borrowed a monitor and it's working fine. Do monitors have a light in them or something that needs replaced? It's very frustrating.
Thanks

if its an old monitor then it may be bulb-based and that may have gone. You dont say what monitor you have of course...
but given an alternative monitor works fine, suggests your monitor is done. why not treat yourself to a shiny new one!Friendly greeting!0 -
The make of the PC is iQON. The PC is a few years old but it's a flat screen monitor (not the huge cumbersome ones of time gone by!).
I would love a new monitor (and indeed a whole new PC) but funds limit this and if I can pay for a replacement part then that is defo the more favourable option than having to buy new equipment.0 -

Iqon went bust in 2008. Secondly the early flat screens have proved not to be very long lasting.
I suspect that the flat screen was manufactured by an entity other than Iqon and just rebadged - you may find some other details on the back, but I suggest the inverter has gone, and unless we know the manufacturer, there is little chance of providing advice here.
I would also recommend that the monitor is replaced, as I suspect that the cost of repair might not be economic. I appreciate tha funds are short, but the price of flat screens have come right down see this 19" for £77 inc delivery..

Thanks v much.
There is no name on the monitor (you know, like Dell have theirs stamped on the front) and there is a model number on the back but I guess that's useless if you don't know the manufacturer.
I have had a look on ebay and there are a couple of sellers in my area selling second hand monitors. Not ideal I know but it can do me just now until I can save up (she says laughingly!) for a brand new one.
You guys have been extremely helpful to me in the past so knew it was worth asking before handing over my hard earned cash.
Many thanks to you both for replying to me.0
