Dispute - Ebay/Paypal

I bought an item recently that I did not receive, communication with the seller was excellent and he asked me to open a case (which I did) so that the refund could be processed.

I had heard that it is better to open a case through Paypal than Ebay but when I attempted to do so in Paypal it re-directed me to Ebay to open a case there. Can anyone advise what I did wrong and how I can ensure that in future that the case is opened through Paypal.

Thank you

Im not sure why the seller is advising you to open a case as that actually does damage to his account! There is a certain part of the Paypal procedure where it trys to send you to Ebay but there is a small link at the bottom which says "Click here if you still want to open a Paypal case"

It may be that the seller tries to put potential scammers off by making them open a claim although they are either an inexperienced seller or one that can take a hit if they're asking a buyer to do so. Are ebay fees refunded if the buyer submits a claim, I can't remember?

Thanks for your replies. The buyer isn't a new Ebay member, their feedback is over 800

I had exactly the same problem recently... PayPal seem to want to divert you back to eBay... very odd. Not sure if it's a geniuine mistake on the website or something more devious...
