Fishguard/Pembrook > Rosslare

Hey folks,

Firstly...Ive never booked our ferry trips before, I dont know whether I am being nieve at how much ferry crossings cost or not, considering I see rail and sail offers for twenty something quid im shocked at the prices for what we need...anyway..

Im looking to get my Dad and myself across to Rosslare Hbr sometime before the year is out to visit family.
I need 2 people in a van return (as we are taking dogs) and 1 foot passenger return..(brother is gonna meet us on the ferry).

Does any one know the cheapest times to travel? I looked up for a Friday - Monday and also a Thursday - Tuesday but in August your looking a minimum of £300 even with the discount code I have for 10%... ("SIZ19J" for all those who want it). I looked a few weeks further into September when the schools are all back in and it really isn't saving me that much. Does anyone know the cheapest times to travel with either Stena Line or Irish Ferries?

We looked up also going from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire on Stena but really not much difference in savings either. Maybe it would be cheaper buying 2 rail and sail tickets and the van + driver £79 offer (which I can't find anywhere anyway). But I can remember ready somewhere the debate on using these offers and only using part of it...ie only using the sail part of the rail and sail, surely they wouldnt even know?

Any tips would be great, thank you!
Ali.

    Hi,

its been a few years since I travelled that route - but the main reason I stopped was the cost.

There isnt much competition on that route, and vans cost an absolute fortune!

If you can get into a car - maybe even a people carrier - would probably be a chunk cheaper.

    Cheers,
    Karen

We travel back to Ireland every year and the ferry is very expensive. If you shop at Tescos and have clubcard vouchers these can be exchanged for ferry vouchers for both Stena Line and Irish Ferries, there is a restriction on how many vouchers you can use but I think it about £200.

The £79 vehicle & driver offer tends to be winter/spring off peak fare.

The unsociable Pembroke Dock to Rosslare might work out cheaper (it's 0245 am in the morning) as the ones in unsociable hours can sometimes be a tadge cheaper. Horrible time of night to cross though.

It is worth comparing the same journey by using the irish stena site.
Could be cheaper? Also you can use find lowest travel fares on home page.

They might be more expensive from mainland, but I booked 2 adults/car in August return and Irish site was £42 cheaper:) for same times/ journey as per UK site, also with Flexi tickets. As they did not appear to offer economy.

It was from Cairnryan to Belfast

But no quidco as it takes you to UK? site.:o

Worth checking and comparing both sites, Irish in Euros.
